So now that’s two people who have tried, and then changed their minds, when it comes to Dakota.Ī third appears later in the form of Victor Strand, who both Alicia and Morgan face down together. He only relents when Alicia makes it clear she’ll fight him over it. In any case, Morgan and Alicia have their long-awaited reunion but now Morgan wants to trade Dakota to Virginia, use her as leverage to get Grace (Karen David) and everyone else back. It makes sense that he’d randomly come across them right when he needed to because Texas is a tiny little state. Oh, and Morgan shows up in the nick of time, of course. Ed’s plea has a bafflingly profound impact on Alicia and she decides to do the right thing. He tells Alicia to not turn Dakota over to Virginia-she was going to in order to barter her and Charlie’s freedom, because of course these two are great pals now despite Charlie killing her brother in cold blood.

No matter, they fight their way free and Ed, having been gouged by one of his taxidermist antlers, takes one for the team, slowing the zombies who enter the lodge so that everyone else can escape. All smoking ruins.Ĭharlie-a character that I count among the many who needs to be culled in order to save this show from its bloated cast-is the one who frees the others, but she botches the job when she tries (and fails) to drug Ed. The island, the hacienda, the refugee camp, the prepper base, the dam, the stadium. This is good old-fashioned Fear, at least. Given they’ve known one another for all of a day this is all pretty far-fetched and, like so many things in this show, badly rushed.īy the end of it all, Ed is dead and his long-protected lodge house no longer a safe place. He tries to keep both Alicia and Dakota prisoner, surrounded by zombies, because he wants so badly to protect Dakota. He tells them that Virginia killed his wife and child but it turns out later it was just one of his taxidermified zombies who got loose. Ed has taken in Dakota because she reminds him of his now-dead daughter. One not absolutely riddled with pot-holes it’s clearly too dangerous to read before shooting.Īnyways, Strand enlists Alicia and Charlie (Alexa Nisenson) to find Dakota and they magically track her down, coming to the aforementioned lodge house. Surely its showrunners and writers don’t care about such trifles as logic and coherency. Who am I kidding? This is Fear The Walking Dead. He would have needed a pretty big, automatic weapon to take that many out at once but he didn’t kill any of the horses, so that doesn’t make sense. He tells Alicia he gave them a choice, so he couldn’t have sniped them off from a distance.

With his axe? With Morgan superpowers? Surely not with a gun. Somehow he managed to kill around eight heavily armed and well-trained rangers all by himself. Later we learn that Morgan (Lennie James) killed all these rangers. Once again: If everything about The Walking Dead and its spinoffs was as good as the zombies these would be some of the best shows on TV. This leads to some cool and very twisted zombies that frankly deserve a better zombie show to be a part of. The taxidermist-Ed (Rachael Sbarge)-is making zombies even more frightening by attaching antlers and horns to them. Creepy stuffed animals are everywhere, and the taxidermist she finds hard at work down below, working on a zombified ranger. The one good scene I mentioned earlier features Alicia Clark-a woefully underutilized and misunderstood Alycia Debnam-Carey puts in just her second performance of the season-sneaking into an old lodge house. I’m sorry, but what Fear needs is tough love. The way this show and its showrunners handle quality control on their scripts is either lazy or appalling or both. While Season 6-much like Season 4-got off to a good start, it has slowly gone downhill ever since, riddled with absurd coincidences, an overreliance on walkie-talkies and a multitude of other plot-holes and problems. Alas, we will have to walk back our positive first-impressions of this season.
